What are your thoughts on beauty pageants for kids under 12?

I've been watching Toddlers %26amp; Tiaras lately, and some of the parents are nasty to there kids. Do you think its fair for a kid that age?

They have to get spray tans, make-up, etc.

And what I don't like is that, once they are all made up they look nothing like themselves. Where's the beauty in that?|||I think it is really messed up. To me it looks more like the parent is trying to live their life through the young kid instead of the kid being in beauty pageants because they want to. i think it is really selfish|||Maybe if they were run and judged by their peers (others their own age), then it wouldn't be quite so sad and they could enjoy being kids and not mini-me for their mothers. Yes, a child's beauty is not enhanced by all that stuff, it is distorted and hidden. They were made perfect and should be encouraged to feel secure in themselves not hide behind a mask.|||no child under the age of 14 has any business dressing up and looking sexy for any reason whatsoever. any parent that puts their child on that show is a pedophile and needs to be arrested.|||I think its a great way to make sure that little girls think that they are only good if they are pretty.

I find it revolting.|||It is sick and disgusting to make small children wear makeup and look sexy. Those contests should be illegal.|||I think it is a waste of time for the children. They should be learning something useful.|||Pedoheaven?

Or just sick and wrong. Well both.
